About
Sharon creates colorful fused glass jewelry, tableware, and display art. She also makes kiln-fired metal clay jewelry and small sculptural items.
Sharon was inspired to create glass art in 2011 when she serendipitously spotted a sandwich board at the Stained Glass Garden in Berkeley, California. She signed up immediately for the advertised beginner's fusing class and has been hooked ever since.
Sharon is passionate about glass because the transparency of colors lends a magic to the medium. Sharon says, "It's satisfying just to pick up various colors and textures and see which might work well together. It's so engaging that other worrisome or pesky thoughts drop to the side. It gives me a chance to obsess about something purely creative for a while, so I'm not ruminating forever about politics or climate change."
Sharon is creating an art series using exquisite luminescent glass by Wissmach. She shares, "I found a piece of glass that reminded me of the inside of sea shells. I usually work with more vibrant colors, but I found myself drawn to experiment with this pastel range of color, with sheen that requires movement of the glass to appreciate its full beauty. I like that not everything is obvious and flat. It gives you something to look at from different angles."
Prior to becoming a glass artist, Sharon enjoyed her career as a Computer Programmer for the University of California (UC) Office of the President. She maintained the payroll systems for world class campuses, including UC Berkeley, UC Davis, UC Santa Cruz, UC Riverside, and Hastings College of the Law.
